Eating GOOD! & the wonders of science…

I went out with my girlfriends for dinner last night to a Chinese restaurant. It was a reeeaelly nice restaurant & the food was GREAT. They had the best egg drop soup there! Does anyone know how “healthy” eggdrop soup is? It was lite so I think it wasn’t THAT bad.  But anyways, I had a few bites of some deep-fried food but I think overall I did OK. For example, I just drank water & I had brown rice instead of white.  I was not STUFFED like I usually am when I go out to eat.  I was satisfied :) Loved the food! 

Went back to eating “healthy” again today. I’ve been eating a lot of oranges lately. I loooove the huge juicy & sweet oranges, like the navel oranges! Yepp. & been exercising regularly lately. I just did an hour at the gym today though. Oh & BTW, if anyone watched Oprah today with dr. Oz on it-the advances in medicine & science is amazing! I cannot believe how far we have come!  I loved the segment where part of a guy’s fingers came off in an accident & he put some powder suff on it & the finger grew back! How Fricken amazing is that!!!!!!!!! & the fact that scientists can now MAKE organs for people using the person’s own blood cells!?  That means there will no longer be the need for organ donors anymore (hopefully).  It all just blows my mind.  I believe one day we will all be able to live to 120 yrs & beyond!

losing stamina?

I’ve noticed lately that I CAN’T JOG ON THE TREADMILL ANYMORE! I really don’t know what it is, but my seriously when I get on the treadmill all I can manage is walking.  I put an incline on it, but it’s nothing to get my heart rate going. I walk on a 3.5 speed usually. And I do this for about 30 minutes…throw in a minute or two of jogging in there occasionally too. When I first started working out like 3 months ago I was actually able to jog on the treadmill for like 5 minutes or more, but somehow I just can’t muster the strength to do that anymore. I’m not really sure what happened between now and then. Wouldn’t you assume that the longer I worked out the more endurance I would build and that by now, 5 months later, I would be able to RUN on the treadmill now? I just don’t think I’m made for running, if that is possible. Like my body can’t handle it.  I do have a condition called a heart murmer where my heartbeat is irregular, but as far as I know that should not affect my health.

Ham-burger! & disappointment

ahhhhhhhhh! We made hamburgers today. I ate…THREE so far today! They were good & I couldn’t help myself. BUTTTT to keep it healthy, I ate some whole grain buns (just 100 calories each) instead of the regular white bread buns.  Also, I broiled my pepper & onions in the oven instead of frying them in oil like my other roomies did.  Plus, luckily I do not like “the works” on my burgers so the only thing I put on it was a little ketchup and lettuce along with my peppers & onions. It may not sound that appetizing for some of you, but that’s how I’ve always liked my burgers-Plain!

On another note, I’m kind of disappointed in some people.  My sisters & sister-in-law & myself are doing a “weight-loss challenge” to see who will lose the most weight & be the fittest when thanksgiving comes around this year.  As of now, I feel like I’m the only one who’s taken this thing seriously.  And honestly, I’m not doing this for the challenge, I’m changing my lifestyle so that I feel good about myself and I’m healthier! And I really just want everyone else to change their lifestyles to be healthier as well. It does not really matter who is the skinniest or whatever, I just wish they would all start changing their lifestyle so they feel better and are healthier!

Even though it was a weekend, and I usually don’t work out on weekends, I worked out at the gym for almost TWO hours today! Note to self:  I’m really proud of you! Keep it up!

I feel STRONG! What is YOUR fav?

yess! Went to the gym today. I found out that I had gained 1 lb since last week…NOT bad considering how badly I ate last weekend (the chinese buffets!).  I did almost 2 hrs at the gym. I feel good. I love how toned my shoulders are and I’m working on my arms.  Currently I have a little muscle when I flex, but I still have some jiggle on my underarms I need to work on. I’m using 10 lb dumbbells to work out my arms. Can anyone recommend some exercises to work on the part under the arms that tend to jiggle a lot? heheh :D

Usually when I go to the gym I like to rotate between different machines, even if I’m just there for like 40 mins.  The four I use are the treadmill, elliptical, stairmaster, and rowing machine.  I like the stairmaster the most right now. What is YOUR favorite exercise machine?

back on track!

I’m finally back home after being gone for 5 days! Whenever I’m away from home, I always OVEREAT! What is it about being in a different environment that makes me feel like I can just eat whatever  & however much I want…? I guess it’s because I don’t have much healthy options when I’m staying at someone else’s place because I eat whatever they eat! Luckily, while I was at my parent’s place we were doing A LOT of gardening so I got exercise in. My legs are still sore from the 8 hour weeding we did at my parent’s garden! Lots of hard work!

I felt soo bloated from all the food I’ve been eating. Felt like I had gained at least 5 lbs. Luckily, when I got home & stepped on the scale, it showed that I was about the same weight as before I left home. Although, I noticed that my stomach is a little bigger. I’m sure I gained inches, even though my weight didn’t change much!

But, I’m back on track to my healthy lifestyle now. I’m not going to the gym today because I’m letting my sore body recover from the weeding. I’m planning on working out tomorrow though!

Thanks buddies for your encouraging words on my last blog. You guys are great!  So plans changed a little & I will be staying at my parents’ place for the next few days.  LUCKILY they have a treadmill :) Last night I jogged a little on the treadmill for about 25 minutes.  Then I did some abs & weight lifting with my brother.  It was great having him there for encouragement.  Even though my workout last night will not erase the shitty food that I ate during the weekend, I just felt great working out again. At least I did something.  Tonight I’m back on the treadmill, but I’m going to try to push myself harder tonight.  The only thing I’m worried about is eating right while here…I have no choice, I HAVE to eat right!! I did not work so hard just to gain all the weight back!

Barfff! I need some encouragement…

This weekend sucks!!!!! Saturday-buffet with in-laws, at soo much to the point where I wanted to barff. Really greasy, high-sodium, high-msg food! ewww! Today, Sunday-buffet with relatives. EXACT same story as yesterday! Chinese buffet with greeeasy stuff. I wanna puke right now. I feel soo shitty! My gut came back. I have not stepped on the scale yet since the weekend, but I’m convinced I’m up at least 5 more pounds!

I NEED SOME ENCOURAGEMENT BUDDIES! :(((((((((((((((((

Friday morning

It has been a hectic morning for me! Got up early, got ready, & been running around to get to an interview I had scheduled but when I GOT THERE I found out the org. had 3 different locations & I went to the wrong one :( It was on the other side of town and I took the bus to the interview so I had to reschedule with the people. I’m soo frustrated! I wasted 5 hours for nothing! Anyways, since this all happened, I feel like my whole morning has been wasted & I’m pretty exhausted right now. I went to the gym mon-thurs this week so I think I’m going to take today off of exercising. I am going to visit the in-laws this weekend too so that definitely means no working out & probably gonna eat alot ughhh! :(

I’ll try to get a workout in on Sunday when I’m back at home.  That is, depending on how late it is when we get back because I might be too exhausted. I think 3 days is too long of a break from exercise though….what do you guys think? Do you guys take exercise breaks during your routines and how long are the breaks?  Every time when I have not exercised for more than 2 days I feel like I’ve not exercise for WEEKS!  I usually don’t exercise on the weekends though.

Chinese & the gym

Last night my husband & I went out to a Chinese restaurant because he was craving their food. I really was nervous going because I LOOOVE all their food but it’s soo packed with grease & salt! But, gotta make exceptions once in a while (that’s what he said), so I ordered the singapore chicken.  Good thing was that it came with lots of vegetables, but had some rice on the side! I told my husband I wasn’t going to eat the rice but again he said I should eat some of it. Ate about a quarter of the rice & most of the dish, and had a fried chicken wing (it was TOO yummy to pass up)! Packed the little leftover I had left because I hate throwing away food :( I had the leftover for breakfast.

Therefore, because of my splurge last night, I worked extra hard at the gym this morning. 1 1/2 hrs at the gym. I swear I have not sweat that much in a LONG time! I felt great!

Do the gyms you all go to have air conditioning? One thing I hate about the campus gyms is that they are not air conditioned! The weather is starting to get warmer & more humid here in WI, so the gym is usually twice as warm as it is outside because of all the people sweating inside the gym! It’s kind of gross. Like today, the second I stepped inside the gym, I felt the warmth & the atmosphere was totally different from the (air-conditioned) lobby…………
